Cashu

Carolina Schutzer, aka Cashu, was born in Sao Paulo. In 2012, she began acting as a researcher on movements of ressignification of the streets and public spaces, quickly joining occupation collectives in the city, such as Voodoohop and Carlos Capslock. In 2013, in partnership with Carneosso, Cashu founded MAMBA NEGRA, an iconic Brazilian collective, known for being a safe space for women and the queer and LGBTQPIA+ communities.
In 2014, Cashu became a well known cultural curator, taking part in two projects alongside the Department of Culture of the city of São Paulo: Festival da Despatriarcalização (“Depatriarchalization Festival”, in English) and Virada Cultural on the Mamba Negra stage. In the following years, in partnership with São Paulo City Hall, she was the curator for Festival SP na Rua (“São Paulo on the streets Festival”, in English) working with the collectives that participated in the event.
She began her career as a DJ in 2013, earning her spot in a male dominated scene through her skills on the decks and also as a cultural producer, which has inspired many women to dive into the music scene. Currently, Cashu is part of many line-ups, playing on independent parties, collectives, clubs and also huge festivals in Brazil and worldwide, such as Gop Tun, Selvagem, Masterplano, Kode, DGTL, Time Warp and Dekmantel, as well as projects like Red Bull Music Academy.
Cashu won the crowds over with her versatility on the decks and, in 2016, she entered the “25 artists to watch” made by Fader Magazine. The following year, Cashu caught the public’s eye after her performances at Panorama Bar/Berghain in Berlin (GER) and at Dekmantel Festival in Amsterdam (NLD), playing on the stage signed by Boiler Room.
Her international career is solid, with frequent gigs across Europe, North America and Latin America, as well as some performances in India, Egypt and Kazakhstan. Some of the highlights of her touring include De School (NLD), Concrete (FRA), Rex Club (FRA), Bassiani (GEO), VideoClub (COL), the Basement (NYC), Nowadays (NYC), besides renowned festivals
like Unsound (POL), Dark Mofo (AUS), Draimmolen (NLD), Sonár Festival Barcelona (ESP), RBMA (COL), BAHIDORA (MEX) and Primavera Sound SP (BRA).
In 2023, Cashu was listed as one of the 22 DJs that dened 2022 in a ranking made by MixMag. She also has toured around South and North America and Europe, with some special performances in China as well. She was also part of some of the main events in Brazil that year, like The Town Festival, Festival Não Existe and Dekmantel, all in São Paulo and Rock the
Mountain, in Petrópolis-RJ. For 2024, Cashu already has tours booked for North America, Europe and Asia, as well as some dates in South America.
